They are nice indeed, but mine just sat because, one, I like the simplicity of using my 4" birch Rapala on birds, and two, I figured the logo would wear off if I used it. I might have been wrong on point two, but mine went to a great member here and we're both pleased. |

There are a number of different orange hue bone scales you can get. In synthetic delrin, there is indeed blaze orange and purple. The synthetic scales are not unattractive.
That's not a bad idea at all. |

I'll shoot purple shells, but I don't think I could bring myself to carry a knife with purple scales. Plus stag or bone just seems right. But that's just me. |

I have two knives that I carry alternatively, a Boker Tree Brand pen knife and an Openil #06. Both are unobtrusive in the pocket. The boker is a slim metal scale affair with a pointer/game bird scene on each side. There’s a picture of it somewhere on the forum, from a dozen years back, iirc.
The openil is near weightless. I got it because it has a carbon steel blade (fan), and was cheap. Was looking for something slightly larger than my pen knife for field carry. It’s the smallest one with the twist lock feature. It’s a classic design, and has quite bit of respect in the knife world. Handles come in orange and purple options, and engraving is available. It’s great for breasting out chukar, btw.

Sorry for the mostly OT aside. |

Dannypratt, IF you put this together, I will take 3. There are 3 of us who hunt rabbits and quail together, always using a 16ga. and have been for 25 years. Thanks for the effort. |

16'er thank you for the reference to the other knives, but I don't really need a knife. I have my wife's protestations and affirmations to verify that fact. However, she has also said I could resume purchasing specialty knives if I won the lottery and became a rich man.
There are many WR Case XX, Vitorinox, Browning, Chicago, Wolf, Wusthof, antique Old-Timer knives, etc. in the safe, knife-blocks, drawers, coat pockets, gun cases, and belt sheaths to allow me to "get by" until that winning lottery ticket shows up.
Thanks for the thoughtful OT reply.
Someone let me know when those 16ga knives are available, I'm feeling lucky... |

Beagle Man,
I will mark you down. I am assembling a list of users who are interested.
Everybody else,
Please keep it coming. If you are only INTERESTED, it's important that I know this too. I'll need some idea of quantity. I will be assembling all of this information before I propose the I dea to SLong and any other proper channels.
Thanks guys, and keep it up! |

I'm interested. Lost my mini trapper about 15 years ago and been carrying a 2" SOG since. It has no soul LOL. Hardware Hank didn't have the mini trapper in stock at the time to replace it.
Slimline or mini trapper works for me, as would the medium Stockman. But would not be against a larger knife for carry while hunting. Don't know anyone that uses a gut hook for birds including myself, so something more practical like a second clip blade would make more sense to me if going larger. But will go with whatever is decided on. 1 for sure and depending on what is selected may get 2 more for gifts for my sons. |

I would also like three. The original gut hook style would be great. |

Although I was responding to you post, I wasn't addressing you specifically. Just pointing out that there are other options out there besides Case for a project for this type. Sorry that wasn't more clear.
I have several pocket knives I don't carry too. One is a Case. Oh well, somebody will inherit them some day... |

I may be interested, depending on model. Just like it to be something /I'd use. Don't need a keepsake. |

hayseed,
The knife pictured in the post is an old time bird knife, if you are a bird hunter you will use it. Would be a wise money maker for the 16 forum to have a pair of game shears made up in the same manner, for the members to purchase.
