Now that Cabelas doesn’t sell Herters 16 ga shells.
What are you buying for shells.
I’m not a fan of Remington Gun Clubs shells.
Looking for a good hull to reload love the Cheddite purple hull for reloading.

I bought a few cases of Herters before they were discontinued. I have about 500 empty and loaded Herters. That will get me buy a few years.

I’ve got 15 plus cases of Herters on hand. Hopefully someone will pick up Cheddite before I run out, but I’m set now for a couple of years. I’ll just keep my eyes open for sales in the meantime.

As long as primed, Cheddite hulls are 12.99 & SG16 wads 8.59, I won't miss the Herters factory loads too much...

Heard a today from a credible source that Bass Pro/Cabela’s has signed a contract with Winchester to load the Herters brand for them. My source didn’t know specifics on the loads, gauges, shot sizes etc., but it gives hope that we could get another decent load available to us.

Hopefully they give us a decent PURPLE hull!

Amen DiamondHunts, Amen.

I have thousands of those green 16 ga. hulls from the French. But building up my collection of purple hulls to where it is almost close in numbers. Green is OK for clays but I have it from a good source that grouse and other birds prefer to be shot with purple shells. Because that is what I grew up with. And when it comes to feathers I still use purple hulls.

If all I could get was purple hulls or loaded shells I'd put my 16ga's up and start shooting 12ga again.

Winchester? Aren't they already having Cheddite load some of their 16 ga. stuff for them? Or was that Federal?

I’m not sure if it’s Cheddite, but I have heard that they (Winchester) have a relationship with an Italian loader for some of their non-AA loads.

As far as Winchester 16 gauge ammo goes. About 20 years ago, Winchester had their ammo made in Italy. The hulls were like Cheddites but not exactly. Those hulls have withstood at least 8 reloads and look great. I still use them now and again. They are easily the best 16 gauge hull I have ever reloaded. Yes, even better than the CF 16 Gauge Winchester hulls.

Then Winchester had the 16 gauge ammo made in Australia. Those hulls were Cheddites for sure. They are very much like, if not exactly like, any other 16 gauge Cheddite hull. I do not know if Cheddite was doing the manufacturing of the ammo or not.

I have lost track the last few years of what Winchester is doing as far as 16 gauge ammo goes.

I hope it is true that Winchester is going to make the Herters line of shotgun ammo. If they do I hope they use the same quality plastic they use in their 16ga Winchester brand ammo. I have no problem getting 7-8 reloads with the Winchester hulls vs. 2-3 with the Herters.

I compared the Herters and Winchester hulls and they appear to be exactly the same in every way and dimension right down to the thickness of the plastic, but the Winchester plastic is of far better quality.

The Browning 16ga ammo is made by Winchester in Australia and appears to be the same hull except for the black color. Have some I found in the hull barrel while working at the shooting range but haven't loaded them yet. Can't afford to buy them Shocked Shocked
