I have a Browning 525 16 Gauge Sporting with 30" Barrels. Does anyone know what frame size that is? I no longer own any Citorie's to compare it too. I have a chance to purchase a 525 Sporting 30" 4 barrel set and wonder if the 16 gauge barrels are on a 12 gauge frame and would fit this receiver? It would be interesting to have a 5 Barrel set.

Bob

Definitely not a 12 gauge receiver. The 16's are built on a 16 gauge receiver. They are closer in size to the 20 gauge than they are the 12 gauge.

If they were on a 12 gauge reciever they wouldn't be worth a plug nickel.

Standing next to a 12 ga the frame size is noticeable--never had a chance to compare against a 20

RK,

Bob the 525 16 gauge is built on a 16 gauge Browning frame for sure, which is just great, however I have an old J.P Sauer 16 gauge Best gun built on a 20 gauge frame, and man it's some kind of Sweet Grouse gun, especially with Krupp 16 gauge barrels.

The modern Parker double gun built in Japan, is a 2 barrel set built on a 20 gauge Parker frame, and has both 16 and 20 gauge barrels. One sweet piece of engineering for sure.

As was noted if the 16, 525 hand been built on a 12 gauge frame, Browning would not have sold many of the 16 gauge guns.

Browning also has a Citori 28/20 Combo Gun, however it is built on a 20 gauge Browning frame, one serious O/U gun. I wish it had been built on the 28 frame however. Would have been even better engineering.
