Whilst perusing my very favorite LGS, which I commonly refer to as the "hole in the wall", I was letting my eyes run the floor rack and "16" drew my attention.

The price is not bad, $155. It's a Western Field aka Sevens 520 pump. I need another pump like I need another birthday. But it is 16 and it is AOG. (An Old Gun)( an automatic qualifier for purchase,,,,,,)

Money is very, very tight at the moment, and I just ordered the wife a new 20ga. Not to mention the Marln Model 90 I just put back for purchase a few days ago. But I do have 90 day layaway priveleges.

Not sure what it would use it for either. I shot a lot of SC back in the 90's with a 101, but I prefer doubles, always have. First shotgun I ever bought was a Fox Model B that I started making payments on before I even had a learners permit, to a little old gunsmith who ran a shop in his old converted garage.

Talk me out of it, talk me into it,,,,,,,,,

Surprised

I am the devil on your shoulder.
I whisper into your ear the only song I know.

IF you HAVE to put an old $155 Stevens pump on LAYAWAY , you should probably Dion Warwick and "JUST WALK ON BY".

It's not nearly that desperate. I confess to a little cabin fever in posting to stir up a bit of conversation in the expectation of members with experience chiming in.

In researching I'm reading of problems with firing pins, and the heft of the gun itself, being built on the 12 frame, is a bit off putting.

I understand. I have been looking at guns online. BUT If I was going to buy a pump, a Stevens would not be it. In 16ga pumps my favorites are: 1. Remington 31L 2. Ithaca 37. 3. Winchester mod 12. All of those can be found at reasonable prices with a little looking and it will keep you occupied. If you want to stay busy, spend some time looking for the illusive ITHACA ULTRA FEATHERLIGHT 16GA. My search took 2 years.
Buy whatever YOU like. I find it hard not to buy any and all 16's! GOOD LUCK.

First shotgun was a Model 12. Have had 37's, good guns. Mostly drug a BPS to the pit over the years, never could force myself to own a SA, I never trusted them in foul weather.

Thanks for the tip about the 31L.

Beagle man is spot on...the standard Remington 31 is a really good gun too, just a little heavier...right between a Model 12 and a Model 37.

I sold my Ithaca 37...and it's still sitting at my LGS...

Damned if I think I better get it back now.

While I'm not a pump gun fan by any stretch of the imagination, those old hump back 520's do have a certain appeal to me.

So............just buy it!

Good Luck!

Greg

Mike,

I have no idea how that happened. I registered a while back as Hamish, it looked like it didn't take even after I was supposedly "in", registered the second ID later and it stuck.

How I got both online at the same time us beyond me.

Don't believe you can even buy a single shot for $120 anymore. What a score! Good for you.
