Does anyone have any info on a gun maker E.C.Ogden & Co. London. I just boughzt a hammerless Sidelock with that makers name on the sideplates. This gun has 80% scroll coverage and nicely figured wood I think the action may be by W.C.Scott but that's all I know.
Any help would be appreciated.

Regards , Gordon

Can we get some pictures?

There was/were one or more Ogdens in and around the top of the London gun trade. But because of the constantly changing array of partnerships, contracts and suchamong the people in the London trade (and the British trade more generally) the only way to get more info is to hit the books where someone has written down most of the info. Books I don't have.

Thanks Dave. I don't think I have the computer skills to post pictures on the web site. I can send pics but that's about it. I do have Nigel Browns first two books and found nothing.

Regards, Gordon

When I attended Jack Rowe's doublegun gunsmithing class at Tishomingo, he told a lot of stories about the London gun trade back in the '50's and '60's. Seems like they were all building guns and trading skills, kinda like cottage industries. Most likely you'll find he was one of the gunsmiths working for one of the larger firms producing guns on the side. Not that the quality isn't there, just the name on the gun is changed to protect the innocent.

I think that might be the case here. The proof marks indicate it was made before 1954 it's nitro-proofed for 1 1/8 ozs of shot.
