I read in waterfowler magazine, which had a write up on boss shot shells that they are working on a 16ga load of copperplated bismuth. A friend got a a few cases of their 20ga and 12ga loads last fall and they did a number on ducks and geese. Rumor has it the new 16ga load should be put in time for this fall. |

i used some boss 1 1/4 1350 #5s out of my 12 ga on late season roosters. I was impressed with the results
I talked with the owner and he said they have the loaders and components to put together 16 gauge ammo which he is planning on doing in limited numbers
I told him about the 16 gauge society site and told him members would be interested in his product and to give us a heads up when he has some in stock.
the 12 gauge is about $27.00 for a box of 20 |

Please let him know that there is quite a bit of an interest in a 16ga load. If they could fit 15/16oz #5s in a 67mm shell at 1300fps that would be about perfect. Most of their loads seems to be quite stout, hopefully they see the market for the 16ga differently. |

Rumor has it the 16ga load should be out and ready to ship in the next week or 2.
I’ve tried to get more info and have nothing to show for it, fingers crossed... |

I emailed Boss to let them know how much a 65/67mm shell option with moderate velocity would be a great product. Otherwise they are offering the same as Kent and HeviBismuth if only 70mm. Since one of the benefits of bismuth is its safe for older gun chokes, shorter shells make sense.
Of course they only offer 20ga in 3” currently.
I pointed out as far as I know only RST is making 2.5” shells that I know of in bismuth.
My gut tells me they will come out with a 2 3/4” Magnum 16, 1 1/8 oz @ 1350fps. This is based on what they offer in 12 and 20 already. I’m sure they will sell them, but the bigger vacuum in the current market for non-tox is for traditional type loads for older guns. |

I would agree, would like to see a non-tox short 16ga #5 shot around 1300, about 1 oz would be fine. |

I would be interested in these for duck hunting for sure.
Question: What benefit does the cooper plating have for bismuth? |

It testing they got better patterns. Both in a high percentage and a more even pattern.
They supposedly changed all shells to have copper platting but ate the cost and didn’t raise prices to the consumer.
I’m in no way affiliated with boss shells, I’ve just read some articles on them. |

Interesting they sell shells in a 20 rd box and 200 rd case...
Guess it is better than a 10 rd box! |

I sent them an email asking about the 16ga loads but also, if the”copper plated” bismuth is still safe for vintage guns. Did not get a reply. This thread reminds me to send another message.
