So I found a 16ga A5 that called out to me and I answered. Hope it's as good as it looks when it arrives. This will likely become my "dove gun" if it shoots right.

Thanks, now I just need to find an xtra bbl for it. Want about a 26" bbl with a poly choke. Any ideas where I should keep watch for one in 16ga? |

Ok, now I am curious. What is the attraction to a Polychoke?
I have tested them and never found them to pattern very well. |

That's a beauty, Wahoo! it would also make a proper pheasant gun. |

Possibly the most fun gun to shoot that ever was. Enjoy it!

Guess I am in the mood to try one out too. I don't want to mess with the original bbl on this one, but also want other choke options to try out with it as situations dictate. Seems there are a fairly faithful following of this system, it might work for me too. Don't know till I try it. That is, if I can get past the gag factor. |

Yes sir! This had occurred to me too. I don't currently own anything else in 16 ga which I would want to run the heavier pheasant loads through so much, other than barrowing my wife's Citori and sticking a slip on pad to gain LOP. |

I have a Savage 720 on 16 gauge. It is a Browning Auto5 clone. The barrel is 28" and was originally a full choke. I reamed it to modified. I use with steel shot for waterfowl and pheasants. 7/8 oz of #3 steel works very well in that gun. I have taken several fall turkeys with #6 and #4 lead. In addition, I have also shot my personal best sporting clays scores with that gun.
I have owned a few guns with Poly Chokes. The patterns were OK. However, the full choke settings never were as tight as similar guns with fixed or screw in chokes. I was hoping to use the guns for spring Turkey. The full choke patterns were just not satisfactory.
It has been my experience that a modified or light modified choke is very versatile.
To me, the Poly Choke is as ugly as homemade sin. However, I understand the nostalgic appeal.
I would like to find a barrel for my Winchester Model 50 12 gauge with a Lyman Choke or Cutts Compensator to use for skeet. |
