I ordered in a pair of these. Supposedly waterproof but breathable. However the liner doesn't look breathable to me. Anyone have any experience with these?

Savage16,

Had a pair of these and am going to order another pair, they work pretty well. Mine turned up missing from the back of the Expedition. One of my clients probably accidentally put them in his equipment bag, when we were hunting/training in the rain last Grouse season.

Seriously good water proof Grouse pants @ $169.00. from LL Bean. Got to admit my Browning Gore-Tex Grouse pants work even better, however they are not as Briar proof. Wish the LL Bean briar pants were just a might lighter.

They work but a tad heavy and hot . Better used late season in Maine for me .
I'll deal with the wet early on with very light pants .

runrus,

I agree totally, I much Prefer my Browning Gore-Tex Grouse pants early in the season here in Pa. When it gets cold then the LL Bean water proof Briar pants come out. If you are an experienced Grouse hunter you do not need to bust the brush, the dog is the hunter, you are along to pull the trigger when necessary. The light water proof Gore-Tex pants get the call until very cold weather sets in. Last year we had that cold weather here on the northern tier of Pa, with 18" of snow around Thanksgiving time.

I have an older version of these that have the tick ankle collar in them. Very handy.
They have held up really well. A size too large and a gallus.
Very comfortable and turn all but the nastiest thorn.
I like Bean stuff and it supports the local folks who work there.

I have the same pair with the tick collar. They are a little heavy for longer hunts but keeps briars and critters out

I have a friend who once told me: "Gore-tex is nice but rubber is waterproof."

The need for "technical" pants Very Happy is an idea for the uplands that I choose not to embrace.

It is so blessedly nice to become, a bit or more, wet/cold simply because it feels all the better to get dry and warm.

It seems to me that we can protect ourselves far too much from experiences today...experiences that, for most, are quite a distance from life-threatening.
I reckon people must like to spend money and, show it.

After wearing waxed cotton bibs or pants they seem light.
But I am picking up what you are laying down.
Very Happy

Gentlemen,

Absolutely no snob factor to LL Bean or Woolrich, just seriously good north eastern products.

Now Orvis might have a so called snob factor these day, although many of their products are no longer American made, IMO there can be no snob factor to a product made inside the USA.

Savage 16,

If I remember correctly I purchased them on line from the Browning store. I do know this, when I tried to purchase another pair of these Gore-Tex Grouse pants, which were expensive, they were no longer in the Browning inventory. The Browning Gore-Tex Grouse Jacket is also not available any longer.

Got to admit they are both the best Gore-Tex clothing I own, I have become very careful with them.

I would take a picture of them for you however they are both kept up at the Log Cabin in Potter/Tioga.

L.L. Bean now has their Gore-Tex Upland Pants back in stock, these are not the Briar pants we were talking about they are much lighter and water proof. You can punch these pants up on the Net. I highly recommend them, sorry about the Browning stuff.

PCD I don't see anything like that on their website-could you share a item #?
Also see that they'll accept a return for up to a yr if you don't like them

Savage16,

Punch up Serious Bird Hunting, L.L. Bean Upland Gore-Tex pants on the web, you can order them right from that sight, unfortunately no numbers appear on that sight. The Brownings are not available any more. Put the sight up for you below.

Click on main Galley for all the info to order.

I just tried to order these pants again, they are now sold out again on the net. Call L.L. Bean and see if they have a pair left in one of their stores.

Just had a long talk with LL Bean, the pants are now fully discontinued and they will not be getting any more in. Look on the net for a different brand.
