I have several Foxes. Some of them seize up after shooting, You cannot open the gun to remove shells, until barrels cool off. Anybody else ever have this problem.

Shells are not hot shells at all. Typically one ounce loads

Yes, the new steel hulls

I would suggest burnishing the chambers with 0000 steel wool
and maybe even lightly lube the heads of the ammo for a while.

Imperial sizing wax is a favorite of mine.

Mike

p.s. are there any firing pin drag marks near the fired primers?

A buddy of mine often had to break open his Savage Fox over his knee. Then he used a knife blade to somehow reset the firing pins. Wasn't very pretty, not sure what the problem was.

Any chance you could talk to your buddy and ask him exactly what he did to correct the problem?

To me it would seem that you have too tight of tolerance between mating parts that are reacting to heat thereby causing thermal expansion.

What I would suggest is a thorough cleaning - and by that I mean a total tear down, followed by a thorough cleaning with carburetor cleaner and heavy duty grease build up remover (i.e. automotive cleaning items).

I've restored a handful of Winchester model 59's - some of which were froze up solid, and every time it was due to 'concreted' lubricants (a mixed of powder fouling and heavy lubricants that solidified into a mass over time).

Be prepared for a lot of messy work that will require heavy duty scrubbing and repeated applications of cleaning fluids.

Usually cleaning a gun like that can take upwards of 3 or 4 days.

Once you get it thoroughly clean and brought back from the dead so to speak, is one of your buddies will offer you a price you can't refuse.

I too have experienced my Beretta 409 locking up after firing 1 1/8 Federal round . The gun was built in 1948 so crap buildup would be logical , mind you I have a much older English gun with no problem. The Beretta is always a little hard to open , even when cool. Could there be another different problem?

My bud's 20ga Huglu Canvasback O/U becomes hard to open after it heats up from a alot of rapid repeated firing i.e. a quick line of Trap or practicing Skeet. His isn't a chamber dimension or finish issue, it's a fit-n-finish tolerance issue. This gun is still somewhat tight from the factory and when the metal expands from the heat it becomes troublesome to open. Occasional firing while hunting or a casual 4 person round of Skeet or 5 stand or SC's -0- issues with the gun.
