Hi folks, I have been away from here for a while again, it's just been an eventful summer. I did spend some time out in Nevada during the first week of August. Six straight days of climbing mountains. 66 miles on foot plus a few miles of sneaking around with binoculars and camera equipment finally resulted in a few images of Himalayan snowcock.
Travis Warren of the Upchukar podcast joined me for a couple of days and we did record another podcast one night at camp. It is currently episode #48 if anyone wants a little background noise and entertainment.
I still want some better photos, but these will do for now. I will be going back to hunt them a few times during season, but that seems easier now compared to using a camera...and hunting them is a mighty low percentage game as it is. Anyway, enjoy the photos, they give an impression of the bird, it's habitat, and the effort required to pursue said quarry.

Really nice photos, but dang, don't you wish you could fly over that country? Looks like you really paid your dues on this excursion. |

You need one of those hover crafts like the frenchman who just used one to cross the English Channel. Maybe they come with a side car for the pooch.
Great photos and it looks like a bird I should have pursued about 30 to 40 years ago.
Good Hunting,
Mike |

Looks like the birdhunter's equivalent of bowhunting for Dall Sheep, but with less moisture and more wind.
Upchukar, indeed. |

Reminds me of when I backpacked parts of the Sierras in the early 80’s. After coming off deployment on the ice, would savor a few weeks exploring above the timber line when I returned to the states. Great soul food.
When alone, places like that test your senses, your courage, and your common sense. Bravery is rewarded, foolishness is fatal. |
