I’ve reloaded metallic cartridges since I was 14, so about 20 years. Rifle, 17 hornet through 300 win mag and pistol 380 through 460 SW.

I remember my grandpa and father reloading shot shells when I was young and also did my 6th grade science fair project on 20ga shot shell reloading.

I’ve got a Lee load all II in 16ga and have made about 20 reloads in fed hulls with steel powder and a 1680 was with 7/8-15/16 of #3 steel set off with a fed 209a. All reloads have patterned fine and functioned well.

All of this to ask, is there any signs of over pressure like in metallic reloading, like flattened primers, primer flow around the firing pin, hard bolt lift/ extraction?

I’m not pushing any limits or not following published data, just really wondering if there is any over pressure sign commonality.

No, not much, top end in shotshells is about 12,000 PSI.
So easy to go above that and blow the head
of the plastic/brass/steel hull.

Oh, yes you can get sticky cases or pooched primers, but the real
caution is to stick to published loads

Mike

P.S I load from 17 Ack Bee to 577 Snider, and from 22 Harvey K-Chuck to 45 Colt.

+1 to what skeetx said.

With shotshells there are no reliable pressure signs near the max. pressures. When signs do show up it usually means you are WAY over pressure.
