Any make/model recommendations? I want a professional type that I don't have to fight with getting through the hair. Have a English setter and a French Brittany. Thanks

I have no experience with any of these, but it might be a place to start.

Being a groom in a professional horse stable for 5 summers and a vet for over 30 years, I have always used Oster. Get the 2 speed, the higher speed is faster than the single speed, speed means power. We rarely use the slower speed. I would stay away from the cordless ones, battery issues unless you use them constantly. Not worth the extra price. Keep the blades sharp, I send mine to Oster for re-sharpening, and they go a good job. If you have a big job, its a good idea no mater what clipper you use to have extra blades. They get hot and can be uncomfortable for the animal, swapping blades can help.

My 2 cents.
Nate

We've raised Old English Sheepdogs for years, and have always had good luck with Oster.

What are electric dog clippers? What are they used for?

Dad's old Oster clippers are still hanging in the barn. If the new ones are anywhere as good as the old ones, they'll last 50 years.

What are electric clippers used for? Trimming non-naked dogs. Laughing

Combing silicone based show prep (think horse supplies) into the coat of a burr magnet, largely negates that magnetism and the thick coat that protects the dog from impalement wounds and cold weather can remain.

Wyochukar-is that something that comes in a spray, liquid, gel? I tried spraying baby oil before but it was a terrible dirt attractant.

Generally it's sold under names like "Show Sheen", "Laser Sheen", etc. and it comes in a trigger spray bottle. Spray it on and comb it in good. Cockle burs, etc. come out super easy, they often fall out on their own.

My only issue with the stuff is that it has a perfume. I am looking for an unscented version right now. A buddy who is DVM told me that he's sure that unscented versions are available. Plain old silicone spray in the aerosol can would work too, but I'm worried about the other ingredients in that stuff since I'm not sure it is only silicone and propellent.
