Anyone get out for the MN waterfowl opener?
Shot my A5 with some factory Federal #4 steel.
We even managed a bonus coot and merganser...

Great
What fun
Were any of those "hens" summer variation drakes?
Give us a breakdown
One coot
one merganser
and
??
Also, what is the next to the last duck on the right?
THANK YOU
Mike |

Next to last from the right is a drake wood duck.
A gadwall, a few mallards and wood ducks. The rest are mostly blue wing teal and one green wing teal. We don’t see much for color on our birds for a few weeks yet. |

Looks good! Our side of the river starts next Saturday and I will be out there with my 16 gauge Remington 11. |

Kent Bismuth #5's? How did you like their performance? |

Old stock from 2 years ago. Glad they are gone. European sized shot so they were more like #6. The factory Federal #4 steel kills better. |

Good to know about the #4 steel. I've never went below #3 steel in my 12 gauges. |

My 12’s also get #3 or #2.
I’ve only got 1 1/2 boxes of the Federal factory steel #4 left then it’s onto my #3 handloads and the Boss shot shells.
I should mention, I’m currently hunting small potholes and all shots are under 30 yards. |

Good friend and I headed west at 3am today. 4 blue wing and 4 pintail. Me with the A5 16ga. Him with a less than 12hr old Benelli SBE3.
Not much of a test but the Boss bismuth performed well. Two more hunts for the weekend so hopefully some more birds |

4 teal yesterday and 4 teal a shovler and a mallard fell to the A5.
No pics as it was windy and raining. These brown ducks don’t take to the camera too well, really wet brown ducks are worse. |

Attempted to hunt Mid Opener this weekend, sorry have no pic's to share, if I did it would show a parking lot full of EMT and Volunteer Firemen attending to my friend who was stung by a bee and forgot his Epi Pen. After a couple hrs in the hospital all was good, thank goodness! after all the gloomy stories of the EEE virus, greatly looking forward to a killing frost. |

Sorry to hear putz, glad he is ok now.
Went solo again this morning. Seems the blue wing are gone and replaced with green wing. Shot my first batch of #3 steel reloads. They worked ok but I had 2 failures to eject. I’ll up the powder the next small batch. Supposed to snow some here starting Friday. Fingers crossed for some diver duck action.

Another good day on the marsh with the A5 16. Shot a mix of bismuth and steel reloads. Had another failure to feed after the first shot on the geese. Gotta work on my crimps and tapers some more. |
