Some weather here for this time of the year. Low 30’s snow, sleet and rain.
I setup on some bigger water with mallard decoys and some diver decoys hoping the weather in the dakotas would push some “big” ducks over. Never saw until. I did manage 4 teal with only 2 shots somehow this morning. Also these Boss shells flat kill. I’m too young to be from the lead days but this stuff is worth the price of admission.

great reports and updates emtymag! Thx so much. Love to hear how the various ammo is doing also. Glad to hear the Boss is good.
What were your #3 steel reloads , 7/8oz? Any details on that I'd love to read. I have an older Auto5, 1987 Miroku made with invector chokes, that I haven't used for ducks yet so I'm paying attention to anything steel or bismuth 16ga related |

No problem. I’m only in my 3rd year of being a 16ga owner, 1st year reloading shotshells. I’ve reloaded metallic cartridges for about 25 years. Started out helping my dad when I was young.
My 16ga steel #3 load is
Fed hull
Fed 209A
7/8oz steel
Vp80 wad with 4 slits
24gr of Alliant steel(so far)
This charge seemed kinda light and I had some failures to eject. I only made 12 for a small pothole hunt.
I made 12 more with 25gr and 12 more with 26gr that I’ve yet to test.
I also have a load using 1oz of bismuth #4 a federal hull federal 209a Remington wad and 26-27gr of longshot that really knocks birds down also.
So far these Boss shells are outstanding and complete over kill for decoying teal or anything under 20-30 yards. I put the rest away for use when some bigger ducks are being targeted. |

My #3 reloads worked well today with 25gr of Alliant steel in this very unusual 34 degree weather. Woods ducks in some flooded corn.

I shot some #3 reloads and some #4 Federal factory loads this morning. 7 shots in all, one alittle too close.

Tried some new manufactured Remington nitro steel #4 today. All were failures to eject. Almost no recoil.
I made a most about them in the ammunition forum. |

4 more birds today with Federal steel #4. Gun cycles slow in this cold wet rain, but still works. Big water in big wind tomorrow shooting the Boss shot. |

40 min to shoot this 4 man limit this morning. Flooded corn and high winds. Boss 16ga 5’s work very well. Buddy was shooting Boss shells also from an old Auto 5 12ga. Hank should sleep good today, he made over half the retrieves.

Sweet! I had a hunt like that last year but I was using a 12. Good to know that a 16 can produce on ducks like that. Congrats! |

Another hunt in the flooded corn and more birds with the A5 and Boss #5.
Might be about done for the year. With some really low over night temps all the small water might be ice.

One last day in the flooded corn. Had to break ice to get in and break a hole open for the birds and decoys to go into. Shot a mix of federal #2 steel and Boss #5. Boss wins, hands down.
