I brought this one home for $355. As far as I can tell, it's all original and in far condition. It's the heaviest 16 I own to date at 7Lbs. 4oz., but has a good balance, and I believe will handle the heavier duck loads much better than my lighter game guns. Did a quick patterning check this afternoon, and seems to be properly regulated. 28" bbls are tight and tighter.

Nice old gun. I have its twin. Researcher is your best bet for the most accurate date. My best guess would be 1940-1942. Hope you enjoy your gun! Dont you love the birddog engraved on the receiver? |

I have the same gun. The condition of mine is not nearly as nice as yours.
I opened the chokes on mine to allow its use with steel shot. It is my favorite gun for pheasants and ducks.
Enjoy your new gun. |

The mid-rib bead is missing on mine.
I see no reason to replace it. |

I doubt you can determine an exact date. Look hear the hinge on the bottom of the action and see if there's a small oval with a letter and a date inside; that's the date code that started in 1949. However I don't think you'll find one on yours, so the best you'll be able to do is pre-1949. Great gun, great condition, good price!
Oops: just saw the pic. A=1949. |

Beautiful gun, looks like it was never shot.
Fin is correct on the date code, 1949. |

Amazing Condition for a 70 year old utility gun like a Stevens Model 530. Congratulations on a great find. From the 1949 Savage/Stevens/Fox catalog --
Retail price $57.95 on the February 2, 1949, price list. |

1949 it is then. Thanks for the info! Yep, I was thinking it saw a lot of old gun oil left to dry, but not too many shells ran through it. Cleaned it up with some judicious use of mineral spirits to remove the old dried oil, and found some decent case colors underneath. LOP is a bit reachy for me, but I'm gonna try and leave as is for a while to see if I can make do. Kinda hate to put a saw on that original walnut. |
