I am here to get loads for my sons model 11 16ga. I just started doing the shotgun thing so Trap and Skeet I shoot 22 and 20's usually. So not a great shooter, mostly I picked up the 12ga once or twice a year for dove. I use 12ga for trap and 28ga for skeet. Looking for a 16 for skeet someday. Also looking dor the best loads 1250 max with 1oz and 1 1/8. AA hulls cheditte primers and the powder whatever works and flows well.

Hey SWCC chief, welcome aboard. I’m a SWCC Chief too! Retired in 2001 though. Was at SBU-12, and 26. Finished up riding a desk at SPECBOATRON 2, Southcom Operations Chief. Plenty of helpful/knowledgeable folks here to steer you right. Good luck finding a 16.

Hey Chief,

Just a MMC(SW) USN ret. here

California may change things but for 12 ga. and the loads based on your request I purchase already loaded shells. There was a time when my son and I shot competitively and would load more than 20K a year on the 9000 with one of Ben's first automates before MEC purchased it and called it the 9000E. Took 2 MEC 9000's to keep up with it due to part breakage. Cost of lead was cheap back then so was worth it.

Now it really does not make sense to reload 12 if you are accurate in your cost calculations. And honest. I do still reload for the 16 sometimes for 7/8 oz. loads. 1 oz. I buy Federals.

Shot my first 50 in skeet more than 20 years ago in 12 ga. using 3/4 oz. Shot more 49's than a man ever should and always choked on 2 on 8. That 6" between a mans ears is the most dangerous place on earth. But so is recoil.

My youngest son was Mn. ATA Trap class runner up with 1 oz. in my 12 ga. B. Rizzini. At the age of 15.

Lot of variables starting with the gun that fits you best first. Eventually recoil catches up with you. But you still need enough lead downrange. Period. Skeet does not take so much. 16 yard trap 1 oz. is the minimum I would consider.

Back when I was shooting ATA with my son would hang out with the AAA27AAA crowd. Many times would hear someone ask them why they used 1 1/8 oz. because that is all they used. In every case the reply was because they didn't allow 1 1/4 oz. But if you are only shooting 16 yard singles 1 oz. will get you where you need to be.

Good luck and have fun!
