I am looking for a side-by-side to add to my pheasant hunting arsenal. I am thinking of something that is late 19th or early 20th Century.

I can list a bunch of characteristics, but I'm flexible to some degree, depending on the gun. It could be

1. British, French, or American
2. Pistol or semi-pistol grip
3. 6 pounds or less
4. IC/M or tighter
5. 26-28" barrels
6. 2.75" chambers
7. Proofed for 1 1/8 oz loads
8. Double Triggers
9. Hammerless

I think those last two are pretty hard and fast. The others I can bend with a bit. Maybe.

I am pretty average and do not require particularly unusual dimensions, but I do lean to the slightly longer side of "normal" whatever that is.

Darnes interest me, but I have never actually handled one.

It would also be nice to have a good American gun someday. Foxes, Lefevers I like best

I'm looking to spend $2.5-3.5K.

Someone sent me a PM last night or this morning about an LC Smith. I apparently deleted the message by accident. To whomever that was, yes, I would consider an Elsie. They are a classic Iowa gun.

For better or worse, I'd consider any pre~'28 gun with 2.75" chambers to have been altered. (Unless you receive factory documentation otherwise)

Most 16 Elsie's I've seen are in the 6.5-7lb range, but there probably are a few light ones out there. In general, shooting 1 1/8oz loads in a 100+ yr old gun is often a great recipe for cracked stocks. Something to keep in mind. Wink

That is a VERY good question. I have looked at that. If it was a pistol grip or semipistol, I would be very very tempted. Also 2.5" chambers and 1 oz proofs. I don't much like the rear pad, but could redo that.

I’ll likely sell my JP Sauer after the season. It may be too new however, I think 1944. It has the Nazi wings on the flats, 27.5”, 2-3/4”, and weighs 6lbs 2oz’s. Not sure the LOP but I think 14-1/4”. Let me know if your interested and I can get you pics. Oh, yes it’s a 16.
