How can you measure chamber length to see if gun is 2 9/16 or 2 3/4 inches?
Thanks

I have found that an Expo brand dry erase marker is an accurate chamber gauge for 16 bore guns.

Insert the base of the marker into the chamber. Mark the end. Remove the marker and measure with a ruler.

Try it on a gun with known chamber length to familiarize yourself prior to measuring a chamber of unknown length.

Yes Smile

The other best way is to use a chamber gauge
.730 is the proper diameter for 16 gauge

Or you could measure a marker, mine measures .725 and add a layer of masking tape to make .730.

I made on out of an old credit card, and it rides comfortably in my wallet.

There is an easy way to measure chamber length using a 3" x 5" index card, rolled lengthwise, and slid into the chamber. It will partially unroll and expand to the chamber diameter. Gently advance the card until it stops at the end of the chamber (where the forcing cone constriction starts), use a pencil to mark the card at the breech end of the barrel, and repeat the steps to see if it always comes to same spot. Then use a ruler to measure the length marked on the card.
The chamber must be clean, and it works best with a new 3” X 5” card.

The original factory engineering drawing from Hunter Arms. No reason to guess the dimensions if you want to fabricate your tool.

I use a 2.75 new primed hull dropped not pushed into the breach if it does not fit flush then measure the protrusion and subtract it from 2.75".
