Bought a Zavasta M75 a while back and I like it. First SxS shotgun for me. Problem is I'm not consistent with it. At trap one day-11. Next time-20.
I like the weight of the shells and the gun, and would be my go to for close pheasants, grouse, woodcock, and quail.
So......Do I go the route of a Citori Gran Lightning w/ 26 in. barrels?
I'm 63 and have shot stackbarrels for most of my life, with the odd pump, all in 12 bore.
Sure is easier carrying the SxS with a box of shells all day. |

Thanks Col.
I retired as an E-4.
But they sent me to KISAFB in Michigan! Grouse everywhere! That is why I want a 16. |

Thanks bobski.
I'm leaning that way. The SxS is iffy on a bad day, but murder on a good day.
O/U is good all the time, if I am right. |

Bad politics and time overtook the base. It was a plum posting if you could stand the cold. Many vets retired there and even bought base housing when it came up on the market.
Perestroika killed off my job and most of the Northern Tier Bases. Maine, Washington, Montana,.....they all came under the chopping block. Too expensive to keep open.
Hope your favorite base is still open and thriving. |

I'd get a different sxs that fit you better. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to score around 20 consistently with any sxs that fits you well. |

Gentlemen,
Uncle Dan Fan is correct, either trade to a SXS that fits you or have a new stock that fits you made for the gun.

I was stationed at K I in 1989 loved the country shot 2 buck and 18 grouse that fall. The base on the other hand was too laid back for me I had spent 2 years at Bentwaters in England a very active TAC base the switch to SAC made me change my my mind on re enlisting. The outdoor activities and country were perfect for me after not being able to hunt for 2 years over seas. I have great memories of that place. Stick with the SxS the more you shoot it the more consistent you will get. |

Thanks all, for your replies.
Now I just might have to look at a CZ, FAIR, and Stoeger for a new one.
All you guys bought up all the nice older ones and drove the prices on whats left through the roof. |

If you're enjoying the side by side why not picking up another. For the cost of the Browning you can find a bunch of classic side by side 16 gauge shotguns, something like AH Fox Sterlingworth. |

Found a Fox Sterlingworth Deluxe 28" IC AND MOD 2 3/4,DOUBLE TRIGGER and ejectors for $2500 online.
Usual dents and scratches in the wood, and very light corrosion on receiver. No case hardening on it. #376XXX
I don't mind double triggers and do like ejectors.
$2500 is about the most I would spend and finding a SxS with these options is not a fun proposition. Too many 12s and 20s out there clogging up the lists.
Don't really care for the looks of the new Iside wood; looks like a fancied-up pine 2x6 with a very light coating of dark Tung oil. Gaaah!!!
Found a beautiful Fausti DEA, but it is $2795 and has a NSST. Barrels are also 30 inches but comes with 5 choke tubes.
Also found a Ugartechea Gr III IC/MOD chokes and double triggers with ejectors for $1995. Don't really appreciate strait stocks, but I might be persuaded.
So.......some of the finds and choices to make.
I know there is no "magic Wand" to instantly improve my shooting, but something lighter and quicker to "poke" at Grouse would be great. |

Newtonian_Guy,
I would shop around a might more for another Fox Sterlingworth, I would not purchase even the Deluxe for $2,500, over priced especially with dents and scratches. For $2,500 you can pick up a real nice L.C. Smith Speciality Grade gun with no dents and scratches. The field grade guns are just as nice, all L.C. Smith double guns were made with the same quality, only the internal side lock finish and the engraving are different.
There are some real nice L.C. Smith 16 gauge double guns available if you look around.
The Fausti DEA is a fine modern double gun, the $2,795 is about right as a price also.
If you want a nice Ugartechea side lock, purchase the grade IV or V, for the money they are a great piece of modern Side Lock engineering.

There are several non ejector 16 gauge Sterlingworths on Gunsinternational for under $2000.
In fact there is one for $1850 that looks decent. 28 inch barrels choked IC/Mod and 6 lbs. 2 oz. wha's not to love. |
