bmarks,

Most 28/20 combo guns are as Lloyd3 indicated, built on the 20 gauge frames and usually weigh about 6.8 lbs or heavier. Now for a 28 like my 555 which weighs just over 5 lbs that would seem a might heavy for a 28 field gun. However if you intend to shoot a lot of Clays then you want the 28 to be a little heavy. For regular bird shooting however you want the lighter 28 gauge frame, to carry thru the Grouse woods all day.

It all depends what you want to due with the gun as to your choice of guns. I own both kinds of 28 gauge guns for different uses. My favorite 28 gauge gun used for Grouse and Woodcock hunting is still my modern L.C. Smith which weighs in just over 6 Lbs. However it carries and swings very nicely.

Not sure what the Dickinson combo 28/20 actually weighs.

Used my 28 ga with great success this year on wild pheasants. 1 oz of 4's or 6's(lead). Not so impressed with the new Kent bismuth 6's load. Will load my own bismuth 4's for when I need nontoxic.

A friend and I used Kent bismuth out of our 28's on mallards over decoys and it was lights out. Never patterned it though.

Don’t know anything about the model but Mossberg Silver Reserve on sale in 28 gauge for $419.99 at Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore. About as cheap as you will find if you want to try.

Gentlemen,

hayseed is right, that is one very good price, and the SR 28 is built on the correct 28 gauge frame. A sweet shooting gun for sure. If I could have found one for that price when I purchased the SR 28/20 Combo gun, I would have purchased the 28 gauge gun instead.

Swampy16,

Have a couple of questions about the JP Sauer 16 gauge double gun.

Is the gun a Side Lock double gun with Krupp Barrels, or is this a Box Lock gun?

Does the gun have cocking indicators on the breech work?

Do you have some pictures to post so we can see the gun?

Are you the owner of the gun?

I just purchased a Best 16 gauge Pre War J.P. Sauer Grouse gun this last year and might be interested in acquiring another one!
