Yeah Ruff, Before I bought the NID, I stopped-in at my local pawn shop.

Walked out with an Ithaca Model 100 by SKB in 12 bore with 30 barrels.

Laughing Laughing Laughing

So I can either use the NID or 100 on pheasants. The 100 is a little too heavy, though.

Same weight as my 870 Wingmaster.

I like light now!

This thread has me thinking I really ought to find a Sterlingworth 16 now.
Ruff, I see that you have one as well as a BRNO 16. How would you compare them performance handling wise? I realize they are kinda apples and oranges with the BRNO being a sidelock.

Wahoo,

You hit the nail on the head. Very different guns. My Sterly is a Brush gun with 26" barrels. As I said, its light, (6.25lbs) and points really well on a grouse in thick cover. I don't do very well with it if I have to swing it to take a crossing shot, and have been only saved several times by virtue of it's open chokes. Very easy to carry all day.

The BRNO on the other hand is a heavier (7.25 lbs) but is really well balanced so you don't notice it that much on a shorter hunt. By virtue of the extra weight and longer barrels, it swings much better then my Sterly. I grab that one for late season when crossing shots are more available, and the day afield is shorter.

Now should you get a Sterly? YES!!
