How about this one-12 ga 1 7/8 oz of 2's. 1 box that was Dads. Don't know what I would ever shoot them for. Should I pillage the shot for something?

Melt it down and make decoy strap anchors or works of art.

but as others have mentioned the 4s have uses against larger beasts and I usually have a couple in a pocket.

I always have a pair of them on my WingWorks vest for wolves.
I can not confirm nor deny that they work when needed. But it is money well spent IME. Maybe that should be IMO but the one time my experience needed them they worked well. I knew what was coming so had time to eject and load when the dog came running back,
But I really prefer the 12 ga. when using 4 shot. Just my opinion and based on experience years ago. I will take a 12 with 4 shot over the 16 in a heart beat. But when the gun you are carrying is a 16... And ruff grouse prefer to be shot by a 16 ga. Just ask them. |

Depends where you are. Not me, but the Captain next to me while hunting pheasants. Flew up out out of a pothole and everything just came together. Hey it happens.

#4 has its place as long as you remember how far its downrange punch is; take extra precaution when using those loads while hunting with others.

usually use the old 2's and 4's at the camp . kinda like those for those "final answer" loads for skunks , porkies , and bigger critters that may need some whump ! |

The heavier materials now being used to make legal, non-tox loadings where required have to be similarly concerning at longer ranges than we're used to with lead. I don't know if the boxes or shells themselves carry the warning but it would be worthwhile to include. |

I really doubt the difference in shot types is a large difference in how far they will travel. While the denser shot might be able to fly farther, often smaller sizes are chosen.
In general target sizes like #8 only go 225-250 yards. As far as I have been able to find, a #4 lead will travel around 275-300 yards. That isn't a difference worth worrying about. |
