I had always thought there was /is only one cheddite shotgun primer; the ones in the yellow/green box. There's another called the cx2000 in a blue and pinkish box. I guess they are hotter but don't know how much. Anybody have any experience with them?

The ones in the blue and pink box are the only ones I’ve ever seen. Anxious to see the replies to this thread.

There are actually 3 Cheddite primers but one is for odd stuff and we will probably never see it here in the USA. They call it CX50 for 32 & 36 and 36 magnum. (huh new one on me)

The two we do see:

CX1000 - which Cheddite uses in 16, 20, 24 & 28 gauge, they claim it is a medium strength primer.

CX2000 - which Cheddite uses in the 12 gauge and the one we see the most. Cheddite says it is a high strength primer.

Gah. the last time I was at BP buying 16 gauge wads they sent me home with a thousand cheddite primers in the pink/blue box (hotter 12 gauge primers?)...

Do I need to be worried? I'll be loading cheddite hulls for my 16's, and didn't know there were two versions of their primers.

No you don't need to be worried as MOST data is developed using the CX2000 primer.

The CX1000 primer is what Cheddite uses for the smaller gauges, that doesn't mean much when it comes to US reloading data.

To be sure I have sent Hodgdon an email.

Although I am not a fan of this company's data, I also sent an email to Ballistics Products.

I will let you know the answers.

Ballistics Products says their Cheddite hulls for reloading all have CX2000 primers.

CX50 is a low power primer equivalent to the Fiocchi 614 or old Eley surefire primer
CX1000 is a medium primer equivalent to to the Fiocchi 615
CX2000 is the hottest primer equivalent to Fiocchi 616

Got a reply from Hodgdon; no data for the CX2000 from them. Discouraged me from using the 2000 as a sub for any other primer.

In the past dozen or more years all of the Cheddite hulls I have reloaded have come with a black lacquer primer. Last fall I purchased a box of Cheddite primers in the yellow/green box printed asType 209 and CX2000 near the bar code. These primers have a red lacquer base. Any thoughts on this ?

Scraggley, No answers here, just more questions. Myself, I don't ever recall seeing the regular vs. the cx2000 in any reloading data. Maybe someone here is fluent in French?? Don't see an English option.

To add to the confusion, I currently have primers in both the yellow/green and the pink/blue boxes. Both have the red film over the flash hole. I believe the yellow box is a few years older than the pink ones and this yellow box only says type 209 anywhere on it.

At one point it time, Cheddites were known to be slightly oversize like other Euro primers and after many complaints from US reloaders, I heard they adjusted their tooling and they are now similar to Winchester and Federal in diameter.
