Can anyone give me a good low pressure 1/2 ounce lead shot load, 6500 psi or lower with modern powder, for a 16 gauge? Not for hunting. Clay targets only. The purpose is to save shot and informal shooting. The load will be used in older shotguns. Thanks in advance |

Don’t have one in 1/2 ounce. Probably won’t find one, but why 1/2 oz ? That’s a 410 load. Now if you want 3/4-1oz no problem. What hull and what length(2 1/2) ? What powder? |

The 1/2 ounce was to save shot. 3/4 ounce is better. Chedite, fiochi, federal hulls. 2.5 length. Unique, green dot, herco, 700x powder, maybe red dot |

Sent you a pm. Let me know if you got it. 7/8 oz there are more loads. Not many in 3/4oz at your pressure. I have some around 7000 and a bunch at 8000 psi. What are you shooting it in? |

I think RST has some around 6000 psi. I will have to dig though e mail. You can also call them and ask them what there pressures are if you wanna go that route. |

Great info ,
Skeetex turned me onto Coco Puffs best filler I have used up to this point.
800 shots a bag , no recoil , price is right.
The loads we are using for target's are moving along at 1425 fps , simply worked up in powder until it sounded good and was consistent over the chronograph using the powder I have to work with.
Regards , Nick |

23 grams is 13/16 ounce -- almost exactly.
One ounce (28.35 grams) of #9 pellets of fairly soft 3% antimony alloyed lead is typically about 585 pellets. An ounce of "magnum" #9's (6% antimony) will contain more than that number of pellets than that.
350 pellets of the denser 3% antimony lead would be about .6 ounce, which is almost exactly 17 grams, so something is wrong in Putz463's load recipe.
Could you clarify that, please puts463? Thanks.
Frankly, by my estimation and experience, that load looks like a perfectly good and very light 13/16 ounce load -- nowhere close to a 1/2 ouncer. I've used Red Dot in 7/8 ounce (14/16ths!) loads that are similar. If a 1/2 once load is desired, it would profit the user to employ the fastest powder available, such as Bullseye. |
