Folks, I am in need of something that probably gets tossed in the trash, empty 16 ga. shell boxes. My supply of hulls/ ammo exceeds my supply of boxes. Prefer anything other than Herter's.
Those darn Herter's boxes are a shade smaller than the rest and never want to stay closed with reloads. Now that I will be loading 2 1/2" 16's as well, I would like to use my Herter's boxes for those and replace them with "standard" size boxes. Anybody have a dozen or so useable boxes? |

Hope Mike helps you out----postage would outweigh cost of boxes--up to you---ziplock bags are MUCH cheaper AND avaliable |

There are boxes from Precision although not in 2 1/2". They are heavy and will last a long time. |

A piece of corrugated cardboard cut to the inside profile of a shell box allows 2 1/2" shells to fit nicely in a box designed for 2 3/4" shells. |

I have actually made my own boxes for 10 ga. in the past, but it's a pain in the butt. Cereal boxes are a good source of proper cardboard. I suppose it would only be proper to use Cheerios boxes (inside joke for those of us who have been around here long term).
Chicago, I will check my PM's |

Chicago, I see no new PM. Not sure where it vanished to in the dark void of the internet. |

John, that's good idea. I have about 500 short hulls that need boxes. I've used the ziplock bags and it works fine, but I prefer to use boxes. |

I sent another one just now, so check again. The PM just says I have maybe a flat and you can have them for the cost of shipping and it gives my contact info. I also sent a e-mail to RST to see if they would sell boxes (& cost), have not yet heard back, but I will let you know what they say.
Good Hunting,
Mike |

In case your interested I make most of mine out of cerial boxes. Seems the cardboard is about the same thickness and density. I'm am one I like to tinker and come up with things so I don't need to rely on certain things. I'm retired so time is not the essential for me. But it dont take long once you see how it's done. Also it's off a pattern of a Winchester box.
One time when shooting games on trap one of the fellows said where did u get those wheat boxes. I told him not everybody can have them . Just for breakfast for champions. |
