A couple beautiful guns. For whatever reason, the Scots have a way with doubleguns that make sleek, svelte and sweet-handling guns. And, as to French 16 ga guns, well, they're in a class by themselves. I love mine - beautifully made, carries easy, shoots well and makes pheasants stop in flight.

Congratulations on your new acquisitions.

I think you will find that st grip 16 hammer a killing machine. I have a Scottish round body back action hammer 2o with 2 sets of 30" barrels. Fluid steel 30" choked cyl/F and 30" Damascus choked cyl/cyl. Both sets of barrels are 70mm chambers and stamped nitro proof. With the Damascus, it weighs 5 lbs 9 oz and with the steel 5lbs 12 oz. Those long barrels will make it swing smoothly, an it looks to have good dimensions.
Oh, mine is a G. Forrest and Sons made in Kelso, Scotland

WJ,

I do believe RST and Poly ship world wide now, I purchase thru Lion County Supply. They make great vintage and SpredR shells for your newly purchased 16 gauge double guns. I use them all the time in both my L.C. Smith and Crescent 16 gauge Hammer Guns. The shells throw great patterns for your walk up hunting. I really like the way they put the birds down, and there is no need to alter the original chokes with these particular shells, the patterns are really nice for downing birds, especially Grouse and Woodcock.

Congrats again on your new double guns!

Nice hammer gun, looks like great dimensions too. Everyone needs a nice 16 hammer gun or two!

No need to order RST from the US because 2 1/2" inch cartridges (66 and 67 mm) are widely available in the UK. When I shot in Wales every cartridge we shot was a 28 gram (1 ounce) fiber wad 65 or 67 mm (both are for 2 1/2" guns), not a single 2 3/4" (70 mm) cartridge was taken to any estate. We shot 65 or 67 mm cartridges from Gamebore, Hull and Eley.

I'm using Gamebore 2 1/2 28grm at the minute they are a good shell , had lylvale Express also in 2 1/2 28grm , local dealer Out Door and Country Sports in Coleraine usually has some 16 gauge in stock, import duty from US would probably kill the deal for me .

I still have some Gamebore paper hulls with diamond shot. They are a really nice load.

Good Hunting,
Mike

WJ good to see another 16ga fan in the North. My brother was recently gifted a JP Sauer 16. It's a wee cracker.
I use my 16s on the big Lough as my weapon of choice. I have never found 16ga ammo hard to get here, Crawfords usually carry a selection and Loughshore Shooting Supplies brings me in the good stuff from B&P.
I am loading a lot of lead and non toxic for the 16ga too. I can help you with that if you ever start.

RMScott,

If your brother has a J.P. Sauer Pre War 16 Gauge Grouse Gun similar to the one I own, he has one we cracker alright, and a serious Best German double gun. Built on a 20 gauge type frame, they are simply incredible bird guns. Congratulate him for me on owning a great J.P. Sauer double gun! Yes they were made for 2 1/2" shells.
