YOU are responsible for YOUR pictures
you must use a photo hoster like
www.jpgbox.com
Copy the iMG and post it here
It is FREE
Let me know if you need help after you dump your picture
into a hoster

You are new here, and I am pleased you are here
The OWNER of 16ga (Doug) (16ga.) passed away a number of years ago.
With the family friend of s_long, who acts as surrogate,
this site has done well with its gentlemanly men and women.
So we limp along smartly but make it happen.
If I can provide photo posting info, holler at me

Yes new to the site. One of my favorite. A lot ok knowledge. I didn’t know the owner had passed. Just was thinking it would be so much better and easier. Not to mention if the photo site starts charging and we loose all the pictures. Surely it can’t be that difficult to make happen. |

There are reasons for the off site hosting of pictures. First this board has been around for a while now, and the software running it may not have had the option at the set up for uploading pics directly. We’re fortunate to be still up and running at this point, so we can all be grateful for that. I’m not sure if it is possible at this point to add the feature. Links to the BBS software are at the very bottom of the forum page. spending time and energy to upgrade the uploading feature may not be the most prudent course. (My opinion)
Pics stored on the forum servers add up in data. That’s the primary reason for the off-site hosting. Save your pic to another site and your saving the 16ga Forum money that can be used to keep this site running. It’s really not hard to left click on your image at the hosting site, select save image location and paste it between the [img] [/img] tags.
I’m not any way an expert on cyber security, but there may also be security reasons to limit uploading to the forum servers directly.
Thanks to everyone who participates and supports this forum! |

Imgur, is a good website for your pics, free and easy.
3 or 4 clicks get your pics uploaded and a copied link to paste here.
It's the way to go. |

Hi Robert - Thanks for the inquiry and your PM. It's a fair question and the response by 16'er above is a pretty good description of what has taken place over the years.
Hosting images offsite reduces the site's maintenance complexity exponentially, and it allows us to keep the site going on a shoestring, without introducing any advertising (one of the founder's strongest wishes). Starting last year we have been very lucky to receive donations from kind and supportive users which help pay the hosting and maintenance costs (and that goes a long way towards keeping my wife off my back because I'm not paying for everything out of my pocket any longer .
With regard to "updating the system" - we follow an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality with this site, and coming up on 16 years it seems to have worked okay that way.
Thank you again for the input - we're always open to any suggestions to make this
site better for everyone when feasible.
Cheers,
s_long |

s_long thanks for the fast reply. I admit I didn’t think of all that. I for sure like the no advertisements, this is a great site and love what everyone has done. Sometimes thinking can be a worst nightmare, however, you never know unless you ask, and I like it straight from the man. Thanks again |
