Serial # is 85xxx if I remember right, I don’t have it in front of me.

Is there a letter preceding it? Perhaps a "H", "L", "M" or "G"?

Assuming the 85xxx is correct and is preceded by a "M", that would make it a 1957 gun according to the serialization chart in the Blue Book. |

Unless you really wanted an earlier gun, it being a 1957 gun is a good thing IMO. The guns in that mid-50s era were beautifully made A5s. I don't know your plans for it but a standard 12 with solid rib would make a fine clays or waterfowl gun. Pheasant, too, if you don't mind carrying a little extra weight. Enjoy it, it'll be running strong when you pass it along to your kids. |
