I have been going to a few sporting clay shoots this year, including some at my old home club over near Wichita, Ks. At the first shoot I went to there the new owner< who also owns a gun shop in Wichita, told me about some 16ga shells that were given to him by a customer, all factory loads from several years back.
He finally remembered to bring them to the club this past weekend when he was having a registered shoot.
He brought out a case of shells containing a variety.
3- Remington shur shot loads of #8
2-federal Game loads 0f #71/2
1 WW game load of #6
1 Rem. Duck&Pheasant load $6
1 Rem Express high brass #6
1 WW Super-X high brass #71/2
1 Federal Magnum #4 Steel
2 Remington Magnum 11/4oz #4
1 partial box containing a few Federal game loads on top of ten 20ga Remington game loads
I got this entire lot for $50! |

Gotta love those good deals. Most have no clue what they got when it comes to 16 gauge. |

Byron,
What a grab bag! Older shells, newer shells, etc. With you sitting there in KS, the lot contains quite a few good shells for quail and pheasant, and the lighter loads would kill clay quite well. Good haul.
A good friend and neighbor hits the estate auctions a lot, and he has come up with several grab bags of 16 gauge loads for me over the years. And others who know that I mostly shoot 16 gauge have given me other grab bags from family members that no longer hunt or shoot 16s. There is lots and lots of older 16 gauge ammo sitting around in closets and garages right now--one just has to search it out. |

Of course I was the only person there shooting a 16ga. Also the only one using vintage guns and not newer O/U or autoloaders. Two 100 bird courses, I used my tight choked LC Smith field model for the first course(can't blame the tight chokes when you shoot behind the targets) and my Win M12 with a light modified choke for the second course and had a blast even if I should have used the guns in opposite order because the second course was more open with longer shots.
I didn't win anything but had a lot of fun and didn't finish last! |
