Welcome to my home state, Mark. RobP and I were there last weekend. 2 days, 6 sharptails before noon both Saturday and Sunday, and also 3 Hungarian partridge on Sunday. You'll love it there. I presume you are ready for winter -- real winter!

Max Smoke,

I am not really all that concerned about the extreme cold weather. It is what it is. If you complain about it, it only makes things worse. I am not looking at it from a what I can't do perspective, but a what can I do point of view.

Bismarck has Capital City Sporting Clays and they have some kind of a winter league that I would like to get involved with. I haven't ice fished in years and there are a few places I'd like to try.

Gonna take what winter gives me and we'll go from there.

I have plenty of projects to do inside. Got a few rooms that need paint. Got a welding cart to build and a garage that needs some rearranging so that all my stuff fits..... I am married so there is always that endless list...LMAO.

I’ve visited ND more times than I can count.

I would honestly look into to trapping some, and I would invest in a good flat shooting rifle that could take coyotes and deer, if you deer hunt.

Again, congratulations! You’ve done what many have talked about but few do!

Ice fishing can be out standing if you get to know some locals.

Emtymag,

I have been planning this since 1993. Had a long time to think about it and got very serious about looking 2 years ago......gotta be honest ND wasn't in the original plans, Nebraska was. Then it was SD. SD was nice and I bid on a house there in Winner, but it didn't work out. So I kept looking, and this place in ND popped up.

The house was right, the property was right and the location was right, so ND it is.

I have to admit that I underestimated the work and worry it took to do this. No worry in buying in ND but selling a house in CT was a PITA. The work was deciding what to take and what not to take and then getting it all packed up and on the truck. The trip was easy. The unloading was easy, now we are cleaning, painting and unpacking, but at a nice pace and taking time to enjoy September in ND. I suppose it would have been easier to get a moving company, but I kinda like it that we did this our way.

BTW,

Got a nice Ruger 77 in .270 Winchester that will put 3 shots under an inch at 100 yards. I don't care much for deer hunting but coyotes......oh yeah!!

Got some dove here in the trees in the shelter belt.....and in the summer walleye fishing!!

. . . and stars all the way to the horizon at night, and from where you are, there is probably not much of the "sizzle" of tires on a busy nearby highway. For some, it is almost startling to be away from traffic noise. I have to get a long way from The Twin Cities to get away from that, and my hearing isn't even very good anymore. I like the sounds of North Dakota.

Cheers!
Tony

Max Smoke,

We are too far away from 83 to hear anything. there is nothing but silence and I welcome it. I can hear the geese and other birds, a tractor now and then and the very few cars that travel this road. But at night peace and quiet!!

The stars were out in full on the 17th, but that smoke from California is kinda messing things up the last two nights. We have a northwest wind back today, and it seems to be clearing things up.

Glad your liking your new home. Winter will be crisp but yes, same cold weather offers other opportunities through the ice. Walleyes & "gators".
