Currently a square section spring, 6 7/16 long, NO preload when assembled.
Drather buy new than eBay something only" 60 years old. I think Rem, Browing, Savage would all interchange. Or 20ga, it is a 16, duh.
Serial 1,550,xxx, date code E is 1936(?) |

I saw those. But don't you think $95 is a bit steep when I only need one spring?
And, any "know fersure" on the interchangeability between brands sand gauges? There is something new, Browning 20 ga, on ebay. $25 is better than $95- if it fits.
eta, perhaps it's ATT, I had email probs earlier today. But I swear I looked over MGW earlier. Now I see they have them, $12.25. And Browning stuff works on my 12ga Savage 720. So, back to MGW for an order. |

MGW doesn't seem to know Rem evermade a model 11
Numrich does list both brands. Several choices for Brownings. Two choices for 11s, out of the 12 ga. Different part numbers between the two brands.
I've got Browning springs coming from MGW. At least I don't have to to an auto parts store and try to find a stack of valve springs that suffice. ;^) |

Rats, took it apart again and noticed the friction ring has no friction. New outer spring on order.
And I did some reading on the 'fiber buffer'. Remington was the only maker to put them in. The others milled a slot inside. It's there to allow the firing pin to protrude rearwards. Otherwise, if you try to eject a loaded shell by pushing the barrel rearward, the pin, being longer than the bolt, can set off the primer. Ever heard of the Winchester model 11 copy, aka The Widow Maker? No cocking handle, just knurling on the barrel. Parts are cheap for those, I wonder why?
I also googled for pics of cracked receivers. No joy. |
