I just spent the last hour or so emailing skb, Benelli, Remington and Browning to name a few, about manufacturing a 16ga semi auto.
Anyone else want to join in and bombard them, feel free to do so. |

Would like to see a Benelli legacy in 16 ga, but will never happen. |

| A buddy of mine got a nice 16 ga Winchester 1400 that he enjoys bird hunting with. Used, but very good condition. |

No...too afraid of both how the scattergun would appear and the chamber length.
In these trying times, less options to be depressed is a good thing. |

A noble gesture Emtymag, but realistically from a manufacturer's point of view, the question is "why?". There very few things a 16 ga can do today that a 20 ga can't do as well or better.
With a 11500 PSI SAMMI limit the 16 ga is handicapped against the 20 ga with 12000 PSI limit. Yes the 16 ga might possibly print marginally better patterns, but how many customers will that sway when the 20 ga spans a much broader range of loads?
If Browning can make a 5 3/4 lb 16 ga, they could make a 5 1/4 lb 20 ga. And Federal makes a 1 1/2 oz Turkey load in 20 ga!
The 16 ga is an odd duck actually. It's not merely a scaled down 12 ga. The pressure profile is much different that the 12 ga as are the powders. Slow burn powders are necessary for good full load 16 ga performance, even in 1 oz loads.
The sweet spot in the 16 ga envelope is probably the 6 1/4 lb SxS with a 1200 FPS 1 oz load. But the market for that gun is likely only in the hundreds of copies which is prohibitive for a manufacturer.
With the 16 ga, it usually comes down to the individual gun and the customer who likes its specific looks, fit, handling, and performance. Unfortunately that's not a recipe for success for a manufacturer who needs to make tens of thousands of identical copies in order to turn a profit.
So that leaves us to poke around the gun shops and web sites to find our perfect 16 ga. And I think I might have finally found mine in the shop down the highway...16 ga M37 Deluxe, Mod choke plain barrel, light as a wand, perfectly balanced, a delight to the hand and eye. It's going to be mine soon.

I kind of do, but yet don’t under stand it all.
How can there be what seems like and endless amount of new rifle cartridges rolled out every year?
Nothing new in the shotgun world?
Heck, I’m sure some marketing firm could push a new 3” magnum 16ga enough that it would take off.
Oh what I’d give for a Benelli on a true 16ga frame for my duck hunting.
I’ve got the new browning a5 it’s close for me but not close enough.
I’m not much of a Remington guy but might have to fix up a 1100 16ga to fit my needs. |

Now all you pointed out is true, however to a guy like me who owns 7 different 16 gauge guns none of that matters, not only do I want the gun companies to make some new 16 gauge double guns, I want new shells to go with the modern gun.
My Classic American 16 gauge guns finally got the RST and Poly SpredR shells they needed without me having to roll my own, and I want B&P to make the 1 1/4 OZ shells most of us 16 gauge Grouse hunters love. Believe me they would sell.
I like hunting with my 16 gauge double guns, there has never been a better Grouse gun than a self opening James Purdey 16 gauge with a Hodges Breech, choked IC/M. The #5 L.C. Smith 16 gauge comes in a close 2nd. Both original guns start above $15,000 now, it would be nice if somebody, maybe AYA would make a modern 16 gauge Best double gun for us again. If Tony would acquire the rights to build a #5 L.C. Smith 16, I would place my order right now, and send him a big deposit. I believe a lot of other Grouse hunters would also. We need both the shells and a modern Best double gun made for us Grouse hunters.

Been dreaming of owning a 16 gauge L.C. Smith A2 with 2 sets of Barrels sense I was a kid, $24,950 is a lot of money for the original, Tony should be able to make a modern reproduction for less.

| I’d give three grand for a CSMC Revelation, if I could get DT’s and any weight under 6lbs 4oz..... I’d even spring the extra $350 for wood upgrades. |
