well , been watching a 16ga double forever and couldn't pull the trigger .... but , a dealer friend told me about a 1955ish 870 in pristine condition that got me thinking ! decided to grab it . std config , 28'' mod plain barrel . REALLY newish - hardly any wear on the mag tube etc . The only thing I didn't like was the stock was full length , heavy-ish , and PRISTiNE ! Had an old , shorter version with a pad , so put the ole skeet barrel on and gave it a whirl . 5/8th load of 9's , recoil manageable for an 870 and got a 45 1st 50 - yea !! 870's , the gun I always had a love/hate relationship . We always had TB grade trap guns bored to 3'' and used fox hunting . great for that ! Couldn't stand the pain for anything else ! They always came and went . This one will probably stay !! |

Nice grab!! I have only owned a 20ga 870 Magnum and the stock had me looking at the back of the receiver instead of down the rib. A 16ga 870 is on my radar, I don't care about the frame size and can live with the safety in the wrong place, that 20ga was odd as 12ga and 16ga 870's I've shouldered line up just fine. I would hope the 16's aren't a recoil pain, if that's what you're referencing. |

Never felt my 16ga. 870 kicked worse than any other 16ga. fixed breech gun. |

KGB ,,, the old 20's , you could fit 12ga stocks straight up , ie , monte trap stocks . the LT's , you can get monte stocks if you look , got one on each of mine , LT28 and 1187 20ga - same reciever/stock ... Dennis , couldn't tell nowadays if the 16's kick , never shoot more than 350 grains of shot in anything , hard to make em hurt !! |
