| If you have ever thought about getting a 37, this would be a good one to try. Another member was kind enough to sell me a 1940 20ga and I just don't see how any other pump could be as fast or smooth..Good luck with your sale |

I must confide that I am indeed snooping around for a 16 ga M37. For my edification, what is the difference, other than serial number, between a pre-war and post-war M37?

Overall they are lighter, they usually hollowed out the butt stock to reduce weight even more to make sure it was really a featherweight. Prewar there was a lot more hand work, well some times. Deeper bluing. Hand chased engraving on the early ones that the roll stamping didn't engrave deep enough. The forend is special (IMO) and what Upper Sandusky now makes. My 12 ga. duck gun.
My Ohio made UL is the same. Only damn area in SD without a fence post to set the gun on.
The hamlet of King Ferry made the same also in a few select guns. 16 ga. UL English Deluxe.
Top 2 are pre 1955 top one Mod middle IC both 26". Bottom is a prewar. One of these days I will change the recoil pad. Or not.
Prewar grip radius is slightly different also, more relaxed. |

I really don't need another 37 but since when has need had anything to do with a gun acquisition? Growing up I shot more game than I can count with a 28" Mod 37. Grouse, bunnies, squirrels, pheasants, ducks and I am sure a few more including barn pigeons and varmints. My grandfather took it up to the Ithaca factory and had a deerslayer barrel fitted for it for my 16th birthday.
That is a beautiful prewar 37 and not so common in such great condition. Prewar or not. |
