a model 12 in 16ga. 28” and full choke. It’s already claimed it’s first victim, a branch at dads that was too high for the pole saw.

A electrical company friend of mine once told me that when a bad ice storm hit in winter they bought case after case of shotgun shells to use in rural areas to clear smaller limbs off power lines. Cheaper, safer. faster. Big limbs, had to wait on the bucket truck and use a pole/chain saw.

I've trimmed limbs off trees near my power lines many times with shotgun loads. In particular, when I load up a batch of reloads with a new recipe, the first one usually does a tree limb trim just to make sure they work as planned.

My 37 Ithaca is my tool of choice.

Nice M12.

I've had a dog's retrieving bumper hung up on a limb in one of our 100 year old oak trees since last fall. I keep waiting for a big storm to bring it down, but I may just follow your lead and shoot that sucker out of the tree.

Emtymag,

I have an old 16 gauge M12, had the full choke opened tp IC for Grouse hunting.
The guns are extremely light and the girls love carring the gun in the Grouse woods.

Real nice pick up Sir!

Looks like a nice piece of wood on that gun. Care to show us some more, closer?

Good work on the arborist job, too.

Not a fan of the M12 prefer the M37 16 which I grew up with Embarassed

But that is a beautiful gun don't care what your preference is as far as where the safety and slide release are located Very Happy

Have one in a similar oak but only since this Spring. Took a picture of it this morning when the sun was coming up after reading the OP.

At the first Upland Journal yuk feast at Caribou gun club BigJohnSD threw a bumper into a tree. He ended up shooting it down we all stood around watching him, no pressure LOL. He succeded but took quite a few shots. Then again he was using a 20 gauge, so to be expected Laughing

I first met John in 83 when I took the USS Coral Sea around the world, he was staff and dropped off when we transitened from West to East Pacific. Most years we hunt phez in SD with a couple other retired Navy guys.

Johns father was the last surviving officer of the attack on the USS Arizona. He wanted to live until he was 100 and did. He is now interned at the USS Arizona with his men and was laid to rest 5 years ago, not long after he hit 100.

Nice looking Model 12. A good pair with that Boss Bismuth.

If shooting down branches please wear good eye protection. A couple friends decided to shoot down a hanging oak branch at a hunting camp. A pellet bounced off the oak and hit me in the cheek bone. It did not break the skin, but gave me a nasty bruise. An inch higher and it could have been ugly.
