I finally broke down and bought some of this new old stock I found locally.

Time to see how it shoots. Then maybe back for more?

I tried the 5's a few years ago. They functioned fine and patterned well for me, but they were hot loads.

Here is a link to an old post:

Thanks Cass.

I’m hopeful the 1 1/4 oz of #4 shoot well. I’ve never been a fan of fast loads, lead or steel.

I may be the contrarian, but I like fast loads. I shoot 1350 or faster in my 16 and 12 ga hunting loads.
I don’t pattern them, but they perform very well on pheasants.

I don't have a problem with fast loads as long as they pattern well. Nothing wrong with having more pellet energy.

love those fast 11/8oz 5's on pheasants.
Use the same in 12ga if using a 12, same 1 1/8oz
The trouble is finding them.
