Soon, and very soon, 1 Sept and opening day for Doves

What will y'all be using?

I and my Buds start with 410s
Then I use a different gun each outing Smile
A few years back

410 Tristar Brittany, 410 Fausti , 410 Crescent

The old 2 1/2” A5 with the long barrel installed. A soft shooter for an afternoon of passing doves.

Forest grouse will get the 16/8mm combo gun in case a bear strolls by.

I’ll use multiple guns in a multi day shoot. Generally I don’t use a 16 ga on doves, but will this year.
This year, Rem 1100 in 410 and 28 ga, Benelli 20 ga, and new Browning sweet 16.

Ithaca 37R with polychoke seems to cover most dove needs for me.

Possibly the model 12 in 16ga but I’ve got a lot of 12ga that needs to get burned up in one of the Benellis.

Thinking about taking the .410 Rem 870 and trying the Boss shells. (State Wildlife Management Area) Only have a hundred shells but that should be enough for a small gumbo of doves.

We are pretty sure our spot in southwest Louisiana will still be under water thanks to Laura. Our teal rice fields too.

Such is the mighty power of mother nature.

Regards,

Chuck

No dove season here in Maine.

You gotta use the .410s early in the season because once the birds have been shot at a couple times, they won't get close enough for the .410.

Good luck!

Chuck,

Be very care sir, I lived in Slidell, La for years working for NASA/Martin Marietta, lost my beautiful brick Ranch House in the Coin Du Lestin estates to a Hurricane, fortunately for us we had just sold the home.

The hunting always comes back, but it takes a little time after the Hurricane!

Be safe sir!

I will start the season for doves with my Bobwhite G2 28ga and then maybe go to my 16ga M12 when shots get longer or when I combine a Teal hunt with it.

IF ...... we had a Dove season , it would either be the High Std 410 or the 28ga 11-48 .

Dave,

We are in Robert, by Hammond, and have missed the full fury of the storm. Slidell got a little licking but over by Gueydan and White Lake the rice fields took a big hit from storm surge. Takes 3 to 4 years to recover from that saltwater.
So that means more quail hunts, dove hunts, and dogris on Lake Ponchartrain.

Regards,
Chuck

1st,
No poule d'eaus? I've always heard that Cajuns can cook anything!

Got to hunt ducks out of a pirogue back in the 70s at the mouth of the Mississippi. 10 point ducks and lots of pintails. Paddle out in the pirogue, back it into a stand of roseau cane and start hunting. What fun!! (But being hit square in the chest by a skipjack that dropped to the bottom of the pirogue and started flopping as I was paddling out to the cane in the dark wasn't fun!)

Mike

Will also be starting out with a Ruger Red Label 28ga. After that, who knows, depends on how I feel.
