I bought a bag of the inserts that BPI sells. Has anyone used them? I was wondering if there is a speed that they work best at. |

Which ones are you talking about? What load are you wanting to use. I’m assuming 16 gauge, but I have been playing with 12 gauge spreaders and have learned a lot off the pattern board. |

The BPI X stream insert. BPI sporting 16 wad with shot cup removed. I've always used Unique powder in 16ga, I was thinking 19 - 20gr. Fiocchi hulls. Im not looking for a fast load i was just wondering how much if any the speed would affect them. Or if they were even worth the $6. |

I have used that very combination in my LC Smith and those loads shot very well. I used that load to win my class in the Kansa State Sporting clays shoot side by side event in 2018. |

Don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Those are close to the dx12s that I’m loading for 12 gauge. I can tell you that they work for a fact. Not sure my choice of hulls would be fiocchi. I seem to have way better results with the cheddite hulls. |

The Fiocchi hulls were the first ones I found. I got some RGL somewhere. I also have a stash of Activ hulls |

I like the Remington gun clubs. Get a lot of reloads out of them. Some on here say they don’t get that many out of them. I get the most out of the RST hulls( cheddite). |

Patterned both Poly Wad and the spreader X inserts. Both patterned nearly the same. At least no discernible difference for me, so I used them interchangeably
Mine were shot at velocities over 1300fps, and worked fine.
In 16ga.
In the 12ga, the Poly wads can start to develop a 'hole' in the pattern. Have used the inserts with the holes in them, helped some, but liked the dispersor X 12ga wads as they were easy to load, and they patterened fine. Again, fps was 1300+
All were 8shot size, 1 1/8 in 12 and 1-1 1/16oz in the 16ga.
also experimented a bit with downrange wad with a post in it. But never really settled on anything and no patterning.
Have some for the 28ga, but have not loaded any to date for it. |

Anyone used biodegradable paper shot spreaders. Looks like they would go well with fiber wads. Any ideas on how to make and load a paper shot spreader? Thanks in advance. |

Stevesavage,
I would use cardboard similar to the stuff you find on the back of a pad of paper.
Make it as long as your wad column is from the top of the fiber wad to 1/8" below the crimp, and as wide as the I.D. of the hull.
Cut two pieces as above put a slice in each half way up and in the middle. Flip the pieces and insert the slices into each other.
There's your 'X'. |
