Hello everybody, I'm new to this forum and I have questions that I hope your knowledge will help me. I just got an H&R 158 in 16ga and I see there is shortage of USA reloading components like Remington, Winchester, etc. in this gauge so I ordered 2 boxes of the MAgtech shotshell brass to start reloading this gun. I know this brass is blackpowder only and that's ok with me. I'm going to use plastic wads for the shot but don't know what type/size filler to use for the powder and the rest of the load. I've read that the old Lee Load All in 16ga is perfect to load this brass. Is modifying this shell to take the 209 primer worth the effort? any advice will help me as you can see I'm new to this stuff, I have a 243 and 357 mag that I reload but blackpowder will be my first. Thank you. |

Please remember the 16 ga magtechs require 14 ga wads, and also the internal pressures will be lower than regular 16 ga hulls with smokeless powder. My best load is 17.5 grains red dot powder with 7/8 oz lead, yielding ~ 1200fps. This has not been pressure tested. You will need to use an over powder card and waxed fiber wads to build the correct stack height. I prefer a 13 gauge over shot card to seal. I also use the 4D dies, including the die crimp, to reload using a rock chucker reloading press. As Skeettx posted, there are other powders to try in your quest. |

Yes the Lee shotshell dies will do just fine except you will need to make a de-capping rod |
