Anyone shooting ducks with 2.5" ITX loads? I've been loading some 2.5" roll crimped loads for my damascus hammer guns, but haven't used them on ducks yet. Hope to next week. The recipe I have is 7/8oz ITX 6's or 4's in a roll crimped cheddite hull, cheddite primer, 25.5gr Longshot in a Z16 wad, 1375fps at 6,800 psi. I've dropped it down to 24.5gr, so It should be about 1300 fps, 6k psi. Will report on its effectiveness when I can.

What do you expect the temps to be when hunting ?

Just curious how that light low pressure LONGSHOT load will do if the temps are below 40 degrees .

That's a very good point. Temps probably won't be below 40, but I'll have to take that into consideration.

Well, I tried these light ITX loads yesterday while upland hunting, and had two squibs on a rooster going away. Very frustrating. So much for that brilliant idea. Rolling Eyes

It was in the 50's, so it was likely something else. Longshot just isn't a good powder for light loads. I'm going to look for an effective and proven 2.5" bismuth recipe using universal.

The 2.5" roll crimped cheddite 7/8oz ITX load I worked up with Universal is proving to be an excellent load -
