I know that Ithaca flues were marked as follows.
'0' is cylinder bore.
'1' is improved cylinder.
'2' is modified.
'3' is improved modified.
'4' is full choke."
One of my barrels is definitely a 4 (Full). I'm not certain of the other. I think it is a 1, but I suppose it could be a 3.
What is the concensus?

It looks more like a 1 to me. However, I've never seen an Ithaca double marked improved cylinder, all I've ever seen were full (4), modified (2) and cylinder (0). Doesn't mean there aren't some out there, but if they exist I think they are rare.
The best way to determine what you have is to have someone with a bore gauge measure the amount of constriction in the choke.
I have seen many Model 37s marked 1 for improved cylinder, but they were made long after production of the Flues ended in 1925. |

After clicking on the pic to enlarge it, 1&4, a rare combo indeed. |

I had a friend measure it soon after I got it. He said it was IC and Full, but I don't think he ever gave me the actual diameters. That was also before I knew about the choke markings being stamped on the barrel flats.
I was wondering if a previous owner might have had the right barrel opened up, but it looks like it may have come from the factory with this configuration. |

Tell your flues Happy Birthday. If I'm reading everything correctly your gun turns 100 years old this year. |
