Well as folks have noticed, I have been largely absent. Truth is, early on in the Covid panic and other turmoil in society this year, I got burned out on online activity and mostly vanished, staying away from civilization as much as possible, which for me is a lot. I must say it has been completely worthwhile. I went on five major road trips to four states this year, a record for me to say the least. But first, I think I will start sharing photos of local stuff from around Wyoming since hunting home turf has been quite enjoyable too. Let's start with Ruffed grouse:

Garhart,

Welcome back and great picture of Rusty retrieving the Grouse, my kind of gun dog no doubt about it! You need to invest in a 16 Gauge L.C. Smith #5 Gun.

Don't even tempt me with a grade 5 Smith. I wish, but way above my budget!

Garhart,

Now that you are a celebrity writer with all those millions, a #5 L.C. Smith is a mandatory Grouse gun. GI has a real nice 16 gauge #5 L.C. Smith for sale for only $15,000! One of 37 #5 16 gauge L.C. Smith's ever made. I would like to own that gun myself. Kraus's engraving on that gun is just stunning.

As Mac use to tell me, people thought he could afford all kinds of different gun, as he explained to me, it just was not true.

All kidding aside, some time you can take a walk with my #5 gun and we will hunt some Grouse and Pheasant together. Try to make it out to Pa when you can.

all the best,

Pine Creek/Dave

That tree trunk looks familiar - kind of like the ones I see a lot of when I hunt grouse.

After I shoot.

I think those are an invasive species. Trees like that seem to be ever increasing in number where I hunt too.

Gorgeous guns! and what y'all just said is hilarious. I've made a few trunks like that one hunting wild quail in Ala years ago when there were still some wild birds.

A grouse tour and Rusty as the star, as it should be. It sounds like you had a fine season. I have shot more than one aspen and where we hunt they are typically much smaller and you tend to harvest the tree at 6’ to 12’. You then need to avoid the top falling on you. Sometimes you get lucky and it just drops straight down.

Good Hunting,
Mike
