Cabin fever has me looking at Simpson's offerings frequently these days. They have been getting in a number of Merkels, Sauers and other German boxlocks at about the $500range or so.

I realize they are normally in that other gauge and are choked tight and tighter . However I seem to be having frigid visions of nice days in the marsh chasing ducks with bismuth with a gun that speaks with a German accent!

What can you tell me about these?

Thank you

The only doubles I have.

Simson 12 on top. Unmarked 100 year old German 16 on bottom.

I have a double pretty much identical to the lower gun, but much more beaten up. One ejector is not working firing the left barrel tends to make it hard to open. Looking for a gunsmith to fix it.

I got a decent J.P. Sauer in 12 ga. First shot it at some local turkey shoots and did well. Its a 1952 decent wood scalloped lock, cocking indicators, side clips. I had to replace the butt plate $20. BUT its less than 7# and fits well... cant go wrong. The RST spreader loads work if you dont wish to open chokes....

I have a 1937 JP Sauer & sons 16ga, Its a fairly deluxe model, but it has no markings as to exactly what model it is. Was this a common practice for them?. After I got it I spent a lot of time online looking at others but never have seen one exactly like it.

Savage 16, post some pics of your sauer, I am sure we can find the model number. Show side of receiver, action and barrel flats.

Cheesy’s pre war German gun has very nice engraving to go with that wood as well.
I have bought 6 prewar German guns lately for less than 700.00 each ( yes they require 7-900.00 in work to bring back to near mint) but the quality of these would cost plenty over 5k to even come close to with a modern gun.

Thanks for the comments on mine. If I told you guys what I paid for it on gunbroker you’d call me a liar. Blind hogs and acorns…..poor description and poor pictures to go with it. I rolled the dice and won. Yes, it has some warts. But it’s a great base to start with.

Some wild birds it got to play with.

My first gun was my Father’s 16ga German BLNE, a solid quality gun, which locked me on a life long love of 16 ga.

My brother has that gun now.
