Is this the hammer gun?

Can you do the stock work or have to send it out?

I like my Bernardelli hammer gun and my side plated box lock

If the gun in the link is the one, that's a pretty nifty gun. What stock repair does it need? I only notice mention of small dings down low.

Probably NOT the gun, I just picked it out of the internet and it was already sold.

But just trying to get a handle on what the shotgun is?

Bring me a rock? Will I like it??

It is not a hammer gun looks to be sixties manufacture Italian not Turkey . Stock was broken at the toe a solid pad would clean up 95 % of the damage .case colour finish on the receiver is good one bad spot on the barrel . I can do the repairs . Looks to be a nice piece .

Sounds a bit on the heavy side for a 27.5" gun, but they are good guns, and it would likely handle stout loads.

bigblue,

If you can do the repair work, heck yes take it as a project gun and make it into something you really like. If the barrels are dented, send them to me, I have a Fosford dent removal tool, will help you out for no cost.

all the best

(Thanks for the offer) No dents Dave just a slight pitting on right barrel . The wood and checkering on the gun is nice the heel repair was not done well. I generally don't like a pad on a double gun but a solid one inch red pad would almost correct the defect. My concern is this gun of any quality as shooter ? Bernardelli products have been good and bad . This is not one of the Turkish parted guns claiming made in Italy. Thanks for the replies.

I have one in 16 gauge. Made in Italy in the 1970s, I believe, based on some quick Internet research. Sounds very similar to yours without the stock issues -- and it has become my go-to 16. The Fox, L.C. Smith, RBL 16s now ride the bench behind it. It occupies a unique niche for me in between the vintage 16s and the modern ones I own. Something like the best of both worlds -- classic looks, tasteful design and a bit of old world soul -- double triggers, straight stock, splinter fore-end, rose and scroll engraving, false sideplates -- with modern configurations that can handle modern loads that doesn't need quite the babying of the vintage guns.

Mine came with sling swivels and it's the first shotgun I own that now has a sling on it. I find that very handy when covering lots of ground behind my big-running shorthair. I also took it out into the marshes this year for the first time duck hunting -- where it folded a gadwall with one shot in its debut.

I've named it "Vinny" -- short for Vincenzo as in Vincenzo Bernardelli -- and have become quite fond of it. Yours sounds like a steal at that price. I would do it in a heartbeat, get it right and enjoy it.

Any pits in a bore are a no-go for me. Unless you get it to someone that knows what they’re looking at I’d pass. Pits can be much deeper than they look.

The pits are external one spot on right barrel , no side plates. Other than the stock issue gun is in very good shape. Still hesitant with the stock issue . Thanks for the help I decided to pass still in the hunt the gun didn't light my fire. Regards
