In these uncertain times of ammo and reloading shortages, was looking to use up some components I never use. Can the R16 be subbed for the SP 16--I know the R16 is for 1 oz loads and SP16 for 1 1/8 and under. I was looking at 1 oz loads and actually going to drop to 7/8 oz for informal clays shooting. Would the pressures be similar between the 2 wads? And secondly, would you drop the powder a little for the 7/8 loads.. I have lots of RGL, Federal, and cheddite hulls and lot of different powders.
Yes, I do have DR16 and SG16 wads--just want to use up these other ones. |

You opened up a discussion for sure.
The R16 can be subbed for the SP16 when using data for 1 oz. loads.
I would not entertain using either of those wads in anything but a Remington or Winchester CF hull, because of the powder migration issue that has been beat to death in this forum numerous times.
IMHO I would not waste the R16's on 7/8 oz. loads. Without using a filler wad the crimps will be concave. Without a chronograph you aren't going to know whether you want to leave the powder drop alone or decrease it. Changing both the wad and powder amount to get to 7/8 oz. loads might or might not workout. It just depends on all components involved.
YMMV |

I use the r16 wad for 7/8oz loads in the RGL hulls all the time, as most of the Rem hulls are 2 5/8" or shorter they fit just fine under 16grs of Green dot powder .
With Rem hulls that are a full 2 3/4" long the crimps will be a little concave . I save those hulls for different loads . |

Thanks guys, I have a ton of RGL's and a couple pounds of GD I'm not using. I'll try the load out. Also have a big bag of mixed CF and PF Winchester hulls that I could sort out.
I'll save my 2 bags of DR16's for a later date. |
