If copper is non toxic, (witness all copper bullets like barnes), then why doesn't someone make copper shot? It would be a lot cheaper than bismuth, wouldn't it? |

Interesting idea. According to BPI Steel ~7.85g/cc
Pretty sure decomposed copper (oxide or sulfide, the aqua green patina on old copper stuff) is a fungicide, might be a reason certain entities wouldn't want it broadcast in marshes or swamps. |

Copper shot is available in Europe for some uses.
It is my understanding that waterfowl experience some toxicity issues from copper shot. |

I guess that makes sense. |

Back in the early days of experimenting around nontoxic shot for waterfowl, Winchester/Olin did some testing of copper shot at their facilities in the Midwest. They had something like 100% fatalities when ducks ingested copper shot. Those tests came to a flying halt.
As to the availability of copper-shot loads from some manufacturers, those are actually copper-plated. I suppose that's so pellets are more easily found in shot game, just like with the nickel-plated shot. |

That article is from 2015. Rottweil's site mentions nothing about copper shot. |
