RobP - I kinda like cork filler wads. I cut them from wine bottle corks for the 10 gauge. I do have some in gauges other than 16 that probably came from BPI or somewhere like that. One could cut some for 16 gauge with a relatively inexpensive arch punch of 5/8" (.625") or maybe 16mm (.630") or 17mm (.669"). I haven't had to do this yet, as most wine bottle corks are 10 gauge already Wink . On the other hand, it would probably be just as easy to go get some felt somewhere and use the arch punch or some homemade cutter to do the job.

Hey MSM2019 -- What is your experience with cork fillers. Are they similar to felt as far as how they perform the cushion/filling job, or do they disintegrate like fiber wads. Also, in your opinion or experience, would they have an effect on internal ballistics much different from felt wads. I suppose it would depend a little on their diameter/bore fit.

Thanks,
Tony

Maximum,

I don't have any experience with cork filler wads. Never used one.

I have punched cork filler wads from 1/8" gasket material. It seems to work, but I didn't set out to do a serious test.

I don't see 16 gauge felt wads listed anywhere
Mark where did you source those?

robp,

Use 20 gauge if you can't get 16's. They will be OK.

I thought that Precision still had them. My mistake.

I got mine about 20 years ago. I don't have many left.

Mark: nice bird. Makes it better when you load them yourself in my mind.

Maximumsmoke: I just loaded some 20 gauge federals with felt and with cork in the bottom of shot cup. I patterned both and couldn’t see any difference. I cut them with a punch big enough for the shot cup. I used cork coasters from hobby lobby. They were 2.99 for a 4 pack. Seemed to work just fine.
