Sometime back someone was asking about a 1-1_4 oz load.
I happened to come across one of my old shotgun loading manual I found when we made our move. So I thought I would post it and a 1-1/8th oz also in case anyone is interested.

WW compression formed hulls.
WW 209 primer
30.5 gr. 571 powder
rsp16 wad
1-1/4 shot
1230 fps
10,399 lup

WW COMP hulls
209 primer
R16 wad
28.5 great 540 pd.
1-1/8 lead
1290 fps
10,300 lup.

Out of 1992 manual.

For what it is worth, HS-6 is the same as Win 540, and HS-7 is the same as Win 571.

RE: 1-1/4 ounce 16 GA loads - I'm one of the guys looking for recipes.

First of all thanks !

Although I have no familiarity with either Win 571 or HS-7, but looks like I'm going to have to track some down.

Again thank you.

Bill K,

You will not find either Winchester 571 or Hodgdon HS-7 easily. Both powders have been discontinued.

Alliant has one load using Blue Dot and Federal hulls on their website.

I have several 1 1/4 oz. loads, including a buffered load, that have been tested, but nothing in a Winchester CF hull.

Good information, thanks!

I have a full 1 lb bottle of the WW 571 that I believe my brother bought for his waterfowl loads many years ago, for the 12 gauge. I've been poking around on the net for some 16 ga 1 1/8 oz loads with 571 and Federal hulls. I did find a load using cheddite hulls which I also have and may use instead of the Federal hulls.

I found enough of 571 in my laid back supply to maybe get 25 loads just to see how they preform
Seems years ago when I loaded them I was not happy with the 29.5 that was recommended.

Hammer bill,

I have used that load using the 30.5 grains of 571 and 1 1/4 oz. of shot in the Winchester CF hull. It was OK, but I never had it pattern well.
