I just purchased a Marlin model 90, 16 gauge. The shotgun is in excellent condition except the sight bead had been broken off. I have the bead but we have determined it is useless the way its broke. I know if I can find a replacement, this is the place to look. Any help will be appreciated.
Also, the shotgun has 26" barrels that appear to be choked IC under and lean toward extra full on top. Is this highly unusual as I read that 26" 16 gauge barrels are choked IC/Modified. Again, any info will be appreciated.
By the way, 1950 model

On old gun’s anything can be the case with chokes, how are you measuring the constriction with a bore gauge or the muzzle with a caliper?

On the bid, a good gunsmith should be able to extract the base of the old bead and provide a replacement.

Bore gauge. I’ll try with calipers.
Wish we had a decent gunsmith around here.

Show me a pic of what is left on the barrel Ernie? I don’t remember if marlin 90 had a pressed or threaded bead. I’m in Louisville also. No gunsmiths here but I know one less than 2 hours away. I may be able to help you, post pic please.

Jta5er,

Having been raised in family with a Grouse hunting tradition, I totally agree with the statement at the end of every one of your posts. Never use an ugly gun to kill a beautiful (Grouse) bird. The gun should be a SXS double gun and perfectly weighted, on the correct size frame for the gauge, have incredible wood, and if a man can afford it, fantastic engraving. L.C. Smith, Fox, Westley Richards and Purdey built some of the best of these guns. There are a few others also. Choose wisely!

all the best,

BarkleyVa or Nick Hammond are the go to guys on everything Marlin 90, PM them, and you’ll likely get your answer.

My 28" is 0.630/0.640", brass bead.

$20 (old price sheet) w/Mike Orlen seams a no brainier...

The Bradley 146-003-013WB looks to be what would be a similar replacement and what I'd put on mine if I was in your shoes. I'd imagine Mr Orlen would have access to them.

Best of luck with it.....

if a DT then look where the barrel extend from the breech block, there should be "stamping gn barrel surface, ID'ing the barrel chokes.

This were eliminated from the ST models and you will have to measure the insides of the muzzles.

kennedy756,

Looks like you may own as many 16 gauge guns as I do, welcome to the party!
Just thought you might want to know there is a beautiful 16 gauge LeFever FE grade on GI right now for sale, the gun looks to be pristine.

all the best,
