Looking at a hunt to Nebraska this fall - any suggestions on where to concentrate the hunt? Prefer public hunting areas in the West part of the state but there is a lot of real estate out there so your input would be appreciated

I have hunted the Sandhills and the Kansas border a few times. There are public areas at both destinations. The Sandhills can be crowded on weekends early on in grouse season and the Kansas border gets a tad busy on weekends early in the quail and pheasant seasons.

I have had some good hunts, even if a bit labor intensive at times by hunting a little later after opening day pressure subsides a bit. Of course, grouse (Sandhills region) get really jumpy by November...but the temperatures are usually pleasant by then.

Echoing Wyochukars comments, I hunted the Sandhills 4 years in a row with Wingshooter. Mid to late October. Sharptail are “challenging”. 200,000 acres devoid of other people. Gets busier in Nov when pheasant opens.

You might want to reconsider for this year, as I’m not sure the pheasant population will be very good anywhere. The Game and Parks said the population was up 27% in the SW last year but I sure never saw it. It was a tough year across the entire western portion of the state. I saw dozens of Colorado hunters the first week or two but the ones I talked to weren’t coming back a second time.
This year, it’s really dry with most dry land crops going to fail unless they get some rain soon.
